APE AT BURNING MAN

Burning Man effigy

If you had one wish for the future what would it be? APE asked this question at the inspirational Burning Man arts festival in the Nevada desert, earlier this year. The resulting film of peoples' responses shows that there is a genuine desire within the arts community to live more sustainably and creatively, beyond the consumer-oriented capitalist paradigm. The very nature of the festival enshrines this philosophy: it is a "leave-no-trace" event where there is nothing to buy and no coroporate logos are visible. What a refreshing change from UK festivals based as they are around non-stop shopping and consuming, and leaving in their wake tonnes of waste. At Burning Man there is no divide between the audience and the performers - indeed the audience are the performers - and everyone takes responsibility for their environmental impact on visiting the festival. Watch APE's video of this year's Burning Man experience here.
