The current economic environment is making it very tough for young people to combine their ethical values with an ethical career, often forcing them into employment which is unrelated to sustainability and climate change. Our experience shows us that young people and recent graduates often lack the demonstrable skills that employers are looking for and they rarely access networking and relationship building opportunities.
Our programme – Change Agents – is designed to break this cycle and boost the confidence of young people across the UK. The result will see a cohort of people motivated by sustainability and climate change better equipped for the world of work, and in a position to pursue a career in the sector.
From December 2011 to June 2012 we will be running a series of workshops, webinars and individual learning plans that equip young people and recent graduates with the skills, knowledge and behaviours they need to develop their careers. Workshops will include Assertive Communication, Effective Presentation, Project Management, CV Editing, Communicating Sustainability and Interview skills and all workshops are free to participants. Thanks to funding from Artists Project Earth, we will also be offering travel expenses to those that need them!
Our fortnightly webinars will also be free to attend and will include a range of inspiring and insightful speakers. Each webinar is fully interactive and participants have the opportunity to ask questions to our guest presenters. After the event, each webinar is made available online and are accessible 24/7.
On top of this, Change Agents UK will also be trialling a skills profile allowing users to create an online profile of their skills, which looks great when applying for jobs or simply to supplement their CV.
