CLIMATE TALK PAKISTAN

A climate change awareness programme for national media in Pakistan

Climate Talk Pakistan is a joint programme between the International Union for Nature Conservation (IUCN) Pakistan country office (Pakistan) and the Stockholm Environment Institute, University of York (UK) that will be conducted in Pakistan in 2009. It is aimed at raising awareness and understanding of climate change in the public, media, industry and government agencies. A multi-pronged approach will be taken to engage this target audience in discussion and debate using local radio, local press, public seminars, the internet and art.

Over a four month period the project will work with 30-40 journalists representing the major media organisations. A media guide on Climate Change in Pakistan will be produced outlining key issues relevant to Pakistan and a 3-day climate changecommunication training workshop will be conducted highlighting the science, impacts and lessons that can be learnt from reporting of climate change issues internationally. The project aims to increase the level of informed and critical reporting of climate change and change public attitudes and behaviour.
