COAL IN THE UK

Putting climate safety before coal corporations

As the new report from the Green Alliance states, “a large and powerful set of companies benefit from the status quo, and have a vested interest in slowing change.”

‘Coal in the UK’ aims to play a key role in raising awareness of these vested interests, and in halting the intended expansion of opencast coal mining in Britain. The project will strengthen community campaigns against proposed opencast mines, by connecting disparate groups, facilitating the sharing of skills and experience, linking campaigns with relevant experts, and drawing together the different strands of the growing movement against opencast coal. Coal in the UK will bring together local groups, publicise the latest developments in their campaigns; discuss issues and strategy; share skills and experience in dealing with mining companies, planning authorities, the media and other groups; and ultimately inspire groups to engage in new and more effective forms of action.
