Land use, land-use change and forestry proposals related to the carbon markets are at the heart of climate negotiations. The "Education Tools for Climate Justice" project takes a twin-track approach to address these policies. First, the creation, translation and dissemination of popular education materials on the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+) proposal to strengthen and inform communities affected by these projects. And second, an evidence-based publication which looks at land relations and will “follow the money” to explore the sources of finance and investment in relation to lands and forests.
These materials will be disseminated in the run up to the UN Conference in December in South Africa and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) in June 2012 in Brazil, as well as by allies through workshops, online and local media. The aim is to strengthen the momentum against the inclusion of forests and lands into the carbon markets.
