GANDHI & CLIMATE CHANGE

“There is enough in this world for everyone’s need – but not for everyone’s greed”. - M K Gandhi

Gandhi’s principles of sustainability, self-reliance, self-governance and the struggle against corruption will underwrite the discussions of an important conference taking place in India.  India is one of the most rapidly industrialising and globalising economies in the world, growing at 9% per annum.

However, the ecological costs of this growth are high, as are the social costs of the displacement of tribal and rural communities, the creation of hunger and destitution in the name of ‘development’ and a deepening of insecurity and conflict.  Drawing on the breadth of Gandhi’s vision, the conference will address an audience of India’s policy-makers, business-leaders and social activists, and will discuss the inequalities of current forms of globalisation and offer workable, sustainable and low-carbon alternatives.
