The unforgettable Asian Tsunami of 2004 was the catalyst for the Rhythms del Mundo project and the Sundance Film Festival its' birthplace.
It was in that creative atmosphere
that Kenny Young and the Berman Brothers hatched an idea to
bring together members of the Buena Vista Social Club in a
collaboration with Western artists to record popular familiar
songs, fusing them with exciting Latin rhythms. I think somehow, we accomplished this.
We are particularly proud to have aboard this album Ibrahim Ferrer's last recording. After our pursuit of Ibrahim for this project, we finally caught up with him in Barcelona and with his kind permission, his management Montuno and record company World Circuit, we had his wonderful performance on "As time goes by'. He was very happy to be able to contribute his own particular style of music and indeed as it turned out something so very special.
This project is also a tribute to that great performer.
With amazing performances by Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, U2, Kaiser Chiefs, Jack Johnson, Franz Ferdinand, Dido & Faithless, Maroon 5, and all the other great artists, this Project makes this a truly exciting musical experience.
We at APE are proud to bring such great music with a vital message.
