ON THE PUSH
To tackle the real causes of climate change we need a
new and honest media, unfettered by bureaucracy or
political persuasion.
Undercurrents is an award winning charity which produces and distributes videos reflecting the UK and global counter-culture. Established in 1993 it offers support and training to groups and individuals for social and environmental change and works with activists marginalised or overlooked by TV broadcasters. It has been very successful at distributing activist videos, DVDs and is about to launch its own internet IPTV channel, VisiononTV.
On the Push will produce 12 monthly internet podcasts and will be edited in June 2008 to create Undercurrents first feature length documentary about surfing and climate change. It will combine the beauty and excitement of surfing with a serious message.
On the Push will interview respected scientists and activists in the surfing world and look at the more progressive products on the market. It will examine the clean energy options available in the marine environment and lobby for greater governmental and corporate responsibility. The film will be widely distributed through film festivals, environmental events, universities and schools, particularly in areas where surfing is popular and with Undercurrents new solar powered cinema, at surfing events and competitions.
"This grant from APE will ensure that the final product has a professional finish, essential if the film is to be effective in both entertaining and educating." On the Push
