BICYCOLOGY
Get on your bike – have fun and save the planet at the same time!
Bicycology was formed by cyclists who wanted to build on their shared experience of the 2005 G8 Bike Ride. It is a voluntary organisation that aims to celebrate the humble bicycle and to promote the virtues of cycling: healthy, practical and one of the more enjoyable solutions to climate change. It is a cyclists’ collective that offers a range of activities to promote cycling and make the links with wider issues of environmental and social responsibility.
This summer Bicycology will hold a week long event in different areas in Lancaster. The project will include activities, workshops, and information events which will promote individual and collective action to reduce climate change. One of the activities is to challenge local people to a 2-3 day cycle tour to highlight cycling as a viable method of transport, even over long distances. There will be film evenings promoting cycling with discussions and workshops turning items which would otherwise be thrown away into jewellery, belts and puncture repair kits. It is also planned to increase the number of bicycle mechanics so the Dr Bike free cycle check which has proved to be extremely popular at previous events can be expanded.
