Spreading the word through music, humour and performance

Nostalgia Steel Band has been performing from a Trinidadian cultural tradition for fifty years. It was the first steel band in Britain and played at the first Notting Hill Carnival in 1965.
The project is a direct response to the issues of climate change. It aims to spread the word to the urban black community and ethnic minorities through the use of the steel pan, a traditional Caribbean instrument directly connected to the empty oil drum which is a perfect symbol of ‘Peak Oil’. The band hopes to make a hit at this year’s Notting Hill Carnival with its low carbon identity as a ‘pan-round-neck’ marching band. Calypso songs with all their traditional humour will voice the contradictions of our climate changing lifestyles in an optimistic party spirit.
