Every day there’s more bad news about plastic waste that’s littering the oceans, and more harrowing photographs of marine wildlife entangled in plastic detritus. But the world’s response so far has been woefully inadequate to the scale and severity of the problem.
Join scientists, business people, politicians, campaigners, journalists and civil society representatives at our Ocean Plastics Crisis Summit to demand effective and well-funded solutions to be rapidly rolled out globally, and to help formulate an Action Manifesto.
The Crisis Summit will include the launch of:
‘Stopping Ocean Plastics – an Action Agenda’: a solutions-oriented report by Edward Kosior and Irene Crescenzi. It argues that prevention at source is the key action to take in order to reduce the amount of plastics that reaches the oceans.
‘International Law and Marine Plastic Pollution – Holding Offenders Accountable’:
a report by Oliver Tickell. This reminds the world’s governments of their existing legal obligations to prevent waste plastic from entering the oceans, empowering civil society to insist on rapid compliance with international law.
Expert panel & discussion session on measures to address the Ocean Plastics Crisis.
At the event Artists Project Earth will also launch its Plastic Oceans Album, the sixth in our ‘Rhythms Del Mundo’ series, with tracks from Bob Dylan, Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Mumford and Sons, Maroon 5, Pharrell Williams, Beck, and other international artists. 100% of album revenues and donations will help tackle the ocean plastic crisis.
