Promoting energy and water policies that can help reduce global warming and assist societies in adapting to its impacts

There is a direct link between big dams and reservoirs and climate change, yet huge subsidies are given to the hydroelectric industry without any research into the greenhouse-gas emissions from said reservoirs and dams. The International Rivers Network is doing important research and advocacy into the linkages between dams and climate change and is actively raising awareness of this missing link in our understanding.

“International Rivers Network is the only NGO working at the global level on the various linkages between dams and climate change. APE’s support will help us continue promoting policies, practices and technologies that reduce the threat of global warming and benefit poor communities and riverine ecosystems.” Patrick McCully, Executive Director
