Women Artists in Conflict Zones

Imagination as an Act of Resistance

Join us at the LSE Atrium Gallery in London

28 October – 4 December 2026

An evolving international collection commissioned by Artists Project Earth (APE UK) since 2022, presented in collaboration with the LSE Centre for Women, Peace and Security. evolving international collection of commissioned artworks by women artists creating amid war, displacement, environmental devastation and political instability.

Across Myanmar, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, Syria, Iran, Palestine, Ukraine and Venezuela, women artists are creating amid war, displacement, dispossession and exile.

As witnesses, storytellers and future-makers, they turn the lens from the theatre of battle towards the intimate realities of civilian life, revealing experiences that rarely enter peace agreements, political treaties or official reconstruction plans.

Their works explore the relationships between land and body, exile and refuge, destruction and regeneration, giving form to memory, belonging and the possibility of renewal.

Together, these eight artistic voices invite us to encounter imagination as an act of resistance and a catalyst for bringing life and vitality back to places profoundly affected by conflict..

A Living Collection

Women Artists in Conflict Zones continues to grow through artistic commissions, encounters and conversations. Each artwork emerges from a dialogue with an artist whose creative practice is rooted in a particular place and lived experience. Together, the collection brings these distinct voices into conversation, opening new ways of seeing the relationships between conflict, identity, memory and regeneration.

The exhibition at LSE marks an important chapter in this evolving journey, inviting audiences to look more closely at the women behind the works and the futures they imagine..
