Imagination as an Act of Resistance
An evolving international collection of commissioned artworks by women artists creating amid war, displacement, environmental devastation and political instability.
Across Myanmar, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, Syria, Iran, Palestine, Ukraine and Venezuela, women artists are creating on the frontlines of conflict, displacement, dispossession and exile.
As witnesses, storytellers and future-makers, they sustain creativity, identity and agency while revealing bio-cultural-spatial landscapes that peace agreements, political treaties and official reconstruction plans alone can never capture.
Their works uncover intimate relationships between land and body, exile and refuge, destruction and regeneration—revealing imagination not only as an act of resistance, but as a catalyst for bringing life and vitality back to places profoundly affected by conflict.
Curated by Dr May East, Trustee of Artist Project Earth (APE UK), the evolving collection will culminate in a public exhibition bringing these distinct artistic voices and lived realities into conversation.
